quote [Gillian Wearing's "Pin-Ups" paintings were made in collaboration with science fiction illustrator and fantasy artist, Jim Burns. Wearing advertised on the Internet for non-professional models who wanted to be pin-ups. Both women and men responded to the ad and provided images and a brief explanation of their aspiration to be depicted in this idealized form. Select respondents were made-over with the help of hair stylists and make-up artists, and photographed in a glamour-style photo shoot. The resulting photos were also digitally retouched to help achieve the desired visual effect. Wearing then had the manipulated photographs transformed into unique—almost nostalgic—painted portraits. The original snapshots and statements from the models can be found behind the paintings to reveal not only the visual transformation, but also the psychology behind the desire to be transformed. On view until August 23 at Regen Projects in Los Angeles].

David Oreilly: RGB XYZ for all

LINK quote [I’m having trouble dealing with the requests for this short..I spent most of last week burning dvds of it :/ not many people know it was hiding online all along. So here it is, the award-winning destructive and massively overrated RGB XYZ. This is a slightly cut down version from the original holy ghost prerelease, for anyone who has a copy of that].

One Leg Leads to Another

LINK quote [The human leg has evolved continually over many eons, adapting from an underwater propeller to its current form. But on book covers and on film and theater posters, the leg has evolved very little. In fact, the “A-Frame,” a cutoff-torso-spread-leg framing device, is the most frequently copied trope ever used].

Karin Schwarz's Amazing Girls

LINK A nice Barbie photo-gallery, a neverending inspiration...
quote [I sincerely hope the works series "Amazing Girls" to awaken in all people, consciously or unconsciously, praising worth notions to really important things, such as RESPECT, LOVE, FREEDOM, FONDNESS, to the detriment of individualist, consumerist and false-moralist values, which are prejudice and intolerance generators].

Passive Aggressive Notes

LINK quote [...some of the notes found here aren’t really passive-aggressive even by our generous standards. some of these notes are really more aggressive in tone, and some of them are more passive — polite, even — but they all share a common sense of frustration that’s been channeled into written form rather than a direct confrontation. It’s barbed criticism disguised as something else — helpful advice, a funny joke, simple forgetfulness].
