Bettina Rheims Photography

quote [Bettina Rheims born in Neuilly-sur-Seine, France, is a photographer best known for her erotic images of women. She worked as a model before turning to photography in 1978.
In her earliest series titled Portraits (1981) she took a series of photos of a group of strip-tease artists and acrobats, which would lead to her first exhibitions. This work would unveil Bettina Rheims’ favourite subject, the female model, to which she would frequently return during her career. “I love the flesh. I am a photographer of the skin”. Bettina Rheims has also worked on advertising campaigns for fashion and big brands, such as Chanel and LancĂ´me, as well as taking portraits of famous women for international magazines. Among the most famous portraits, we can mention Madonna, Catherine Deneuve, Charlotte Rampling, Carole Bouquet, Marianne Faithfull, Barbara, Kylie Minogue, Claudia Schiffer, Asia Argento]. Tree Change Dolls

Tree Change Dolls is a project about taking old discarded toys and giving them a new lease on life, cerated by an artist, illustrator and science communicator based in Hobart, Tasmania. Facebook.

quote: "...these dolls have been rescued and rehabilitated from op-shops and tip shops around Tasmania. These lil fashion dolls have opted for a "tree change", swapping high-maintenance glitz 'n' glamour for down-to-earth style. I hand repaint the dolls faces, mold new shoes, and my Mum sews and knits their clothing. My sisters and I grew up playing with second-hand dolls and home-made toys in the beautiful Tasmanian natural environment. I love the satisfaction of repairing and reusing discarded items to give them a new lease on life".

Through the Window by Maria Jose Garcia Piaggio

In Maria Jose Garcia Piaggio’s Through the Window, she appropriates found images as part of her investigation about cybersex.
quote [Through the Window is devided into two parts, one part is men looking though free portals and the other side is women that offer live shows where you have to pay to participate. Is a project of accumulation and appropiation of images. I want to be able to show this scenarios that we all know are there but we keep hidden, deconstructing it from the virtual context and taking it to other scenaries to show this two groups to the expectator. I’m interested to show the construction of the body language this women have in front of the camera to be liked and atract the expectator].

Paintbrush Portraits by Rebecca Szeto

"These works are an homage to an often lost sensibility and quality, not simply the modernist stylings, found in Old Masters' works. They (con)fuse realities between politics (labor with leisure) and consumerism (trash and treasure), pointing to an endless loop of transformative regeneration. The brush and its action is also ripe for wordplay: Women's work and their brush off from prior annals of art history as well as material puns about bristling at waste and patriarchy" says the San Francisco-based artist Rebecca Szeto, referring to her ongoing series of Paintbrush Portraits.

Ashkan Honarvar Portfolio

Ashkan Honarvar depicts an undeniable, unavoidable beauty by accepting the darker sides of human ‘nature’. The body, torn by acts of war, exploited by the sex industry or used as a tool for seeking identity, is the focal point of his work. This constitutes a search for a universal representation of the evil latent in every human, providing an opportunity for reflection. His aesthetic dissection has an intriguing macabre nature, which opens the images to interpretation.
[Thumbnail: Negative space, pornographic images were the starting point for this series. Removing faces and genitals strips the naked bodies of their identity enabling an exploration of sexuality.]

Eliza Bennett Sews a Sculpture into her Skin

For A woman’s work is never done, english artist Eliza Bennett embroiders a self-inflicted sculpture into her flesh.
quote [Using my own hand as a base material, I considered it a canvas upon which I stitched into the top layer of skin using thread to create the appearance of an incredibly work worn hand. By using the technique of embroidery, traditionally employed to represent femininity and applying it to the expression of it’s opposite, I hope to challenge the pre-conceived notion that ‘women’s work’ is light and easy. Aiming to represent the effects of hard work arising from employment in low paid ancillary jobs such as cleaning, caring, and catering, all traditionally considered to be ‘women’s work’].
