Vermibus: "Dissolving Europe"

Berlin based artist Vermibus regularly collects advertising posters from the streets, using them in his studio as the base material for his work. There, a process of transformation begins. Using solvent, he brushes away the faces and flesh of the models appearing in the posters as well as brand logos. Once the transformation is complete, he then reintroduces the adverts back into their original context, hijacking the publicity, and its purpose.

A Miniature Calendar by Tatsuya Tanaka

Miniature Calendar is an amazing project by Tatsuya Tanaka, Art Director, Designer and Miniature Photographer.
quote [Broccoli and parsley might sometimes look like a forest, or the tree leaves floating on the surface of the water might sometimes look like little boats. Everyday occurrences seen from a pygmy’s perspective can bring us lots of fun thoughts. I wanted to take this way of thinking and express it through photographs, so I started to put together a “MINIATURE CALENDAR” These photographs primarily depict diorama-style figures surrounded by daily necessaries. Just like a standard daily calendar, the photos are updated daily on my website and SNS page, earning it the name of “MINIATURE CALENDAR”].

Sand Castles By Calvin Seibert

New York-based artist Calvin Seibert builds elaborate architectural sand castles.
quote [Building "sandcastles" is a bit of a test. Nature will always be against you and time is always running out. Having to think fast and to bring it all together in the end is what I like about it.
I rarely start with a plan, just a vague notion of trying to do something different each time. Once I begin building and forms take shape I can start to see where things are going and either follow that road or attempt to contradict it with something unexpected.
In my mind they are always mash-ups of influences and ideas. I see a castle, a fishing village, a modernist sculpture, a stage set for the oscars all at once.
When they are successful they don't feel contained or finished. They become organic machines that might grow and expand. I am always adding just one more bit and if time allowed I wouldn't stop].

Paintings for Ants by Lorraine Loots

quote [Potluck 100 | Paintings for Ants is a project by Cape Town-based miniaturist painter Lorraine Loots. The project follows on 2013's 365 Paintings for Ants and 2014's 365 Postcards for Ants.

A collection of 100 miniatures are to be painted throughout 2015. These will be painted over 25 weeks, on themed days, namely: Microcosm Mondays, Tiny Tuesdays, Fursdays and Free Fridays. The weeks will be announced randomly as the year goes along, the dates of the paintings thus becoming the "potluck" element.

All 100 original paintings will be auctioned on Instagram, framed in raw wood and exhibited, before being sent to their owners in February 2016. A limited edition of 10 prints will be released for each of the 100 paintings. The prints will be released later in the year].

Photographer's saliva on family album archive

Photographer Federica Landi adorns old family photos with saliva into her Daimones serie.

quote [The inclusion of saliva (a fluid certifying identity) on the photographic surface, creates a layer of contingent “presence”, intimate re-appropriation of the family archive, attempting to 'cure' the fallacious nature of memory and to 'fecundate' its connection with our current time. Saliva is thus the glue that keeps together two dimensions: the motionless time of photography and the contingency of identity].

Free The Nipple

Inspired by true events, Free The Nipple follows a group of young women who take to the streets of New York City topless, to protest the archaic censorship laws in the United States. Activist Liv and With set out to start a movement and change the system through publicity stunts and graffiti installations while armed with First Amendment lawyers. The film explores the contradictions in our media-dominated society, where acts of violence and killing are glorified, while images of a woman’s body are censored by the FCC and the MPAA. What is more obscene: Violence or a Nipple?

Free The Nipple has become a “real life” equality movement that’s sparked a national dialogue. Famous graffiti artists, groups of dedicated women, and influencers such as Miley Cyrus, Liv Tyler, and Lena Dunham have shown public support which garnered international press and created a viral #FreeTheNipple campaign. The issues we’re addressing are equal rights for men and women, a more balanced system of censorship, and legal rights for all women to breastfeed in public. Twitter and Facebook.

quote [Free The Nipple is a film, an equality movement, and a mission to empower women across the world. We stand against female oppression and censorship, both in the United States and around the globe. Today, in the USA it is effectively ILLEGAL for a woman to be topless, breastfeeding included, in 35 states. In less tolerant places like Louisiana, an exposed nipple can take a woman to jail for up to three years and cost $2,500 in fines. Even in New York City, which legalized public toplessness in 1992, the NYPD continues to arrest women. We’re working to change these inequalities through film, social media, and a grassroots campaign].
